About this place
A thin slice of cured ham releases its savoury richness, followed by a sip of warmed sake: that pairing is reason enough to seek out 29 Rôtie. The ham comes in assortments listed as 2 varieties for 1,200 yen, 3 varieties for 1,800 yen, or a special assortment for 3,000 yen. Compare different cuts and flavours, including prosciutto aged for 24 months and ham infused with orange juice, flesh and peel, while finding a drink to suit.
The sake selection includes aged bottles as well as chilled sake by the glass. Some diners have praised the way warmed sake complements the fat in the ham; others describe enjoying the food with wine, so the choices are not limited to sake. Cheese is another draw. The menu lists assortments of 2 varieties for 980 yen, 3 varieties for 1,350 yen, and a special assortment for 2,500 yen. There are also distinctive cheeses to sample in smaller portions, including a hard cheese aged for 8 months, described with notes of fresh grass, deep savoury flavour and milky sweetness.
A course featuring 3 kinds each of cured ham and cheese, with bread and a small appetiser assortment, offers a useful starting point if choosing proves difficult. Meat dishes such as lamb carpaccio and grilled venison leg are also available, making it possible to keep the evening light with ham and drinks or put together a more substantial meal. Dinner reservations are recommended, so consider booking ahead.
